The European Accessibility Act's principal deadline was 28 June 2025, and member-state authorities began actively supervising during 2026 — the first full year of enforcement against a deadline already in the past.
It generally reaches e-commerce and consumer digital services offered to EU consumers, regardless of where the business is established, with an exemption for microenterprises (broadly, under 10 staff and under €2m turnover). Penalties vary by member state and can reach €100,000 or a proportion of annual turnover.
Enforcement has already started: in November 2025 France's DGCCRF issued formal notices to Auchan, Carrefour, E.Leclerc and Picard, and filed emergency injunctions when they did not act.
