Accessibility overlays promise that one line of JavaScript will resolve your accessibility obligations. Here is what the public record actually says.
A $1,000,000 FTC penalty
In April 2025 the FTC fined accessiBe $1 million for misrepresenting that its AI product made websites WCAG-compliant — and for undisclosed paid endorsements dressed up as independent reviews.
Overlays attract lawsuits
More than 800 businesses using overlay widgets were sued in 2023–24 — over a quarter of all digital accessibility lawsuits. Sites with an overlay were sued at rates equal to or higher than sites with no solution at all.

This matters more than any feature.
We won't promise compliance
No automated tool can make a site conform to WCAG, and any that says otherwise is repeating the exact claim the FTC fined. We find provable defects and fix them. That is worth doing. It is not the same as compliance.
We won't give you a score
There is no "97% accessible" badge here. A number implies a completeness we cannot measure — roughly a third of WCAG can only be judged by a human being.
We won't invent alt text and hide it
We're reading HTML, not looking at your photos. When the AI drafts a description it flags it for your confirmation and says why. Confidently wrong alt text is worse than none — it misinforms the person relying on it.

Questions
Does this make my site compliant?
No, and be sceptical of anything that says it does — that specific claim is what cost accessiBe $1,000,000 at the FTC in 2025.
Automated testing can prove a subset of WCAG failures. It cannot judge whether your alt text is accurate, whether your page makes sense when read aloud in order, or whether a workflow is usable with a screen reader. We fix what can be proven and tell you plainly where a human has to take over.
Why is an AI tool "unkillable" if it needs your server?
Because the AI is a compiler, not a runtime. It runs once, when you ask for fixes. What you get back is ordinary HTML sitting in your own pages.
That output never calls us again. If this business disappeared tonight, your site would be exactly as fixed tomorrow. An overlay is the opposite: its JavaScript must reach the vendor's server on every page view, by every visitor, forever — which is precisely why it dies when the invoice does.
What is the AI actually doing?
It receives the specific elements that failed a check — not your whole page — and returns corrected markup for each, with a one-line explanation and a confidence rating. It is instructed to make the smallest change that fixes the cited failure and to preserve everything else.
Where it cannot know something from HTML alone — what a photograph shows, what a video says — it drafts a suggestion and marks it as needing your confirmation rather than quietly guessing.
Is my page content sent anywhere?
Paste-HTML mode sends nothing at all; the analysis runs entirely in your browser.
URL mode fetches the page you named through our server, because a browser cannot read another site's HTML directly — but the analysis still happens on your device, and we do not store the page. If you ask for AI fixes, only the failing elements are sent, never the whole page. See the privacy policy.
What happens when the 25 AI fixes run out?
Everything else keeps working forever: unlimited scanning, the full findings report, and the manual fix guidance for every issue. Only the "write it for me" step is metered, because it costs real money to run each time.
25 is sized to remediate a typical small site with room to spare. If you need more, you can buy another pack — a one-time purchase, never a subscription.
I'm in the EU. Does the European Accessibility Act apply to me?
Possibly. The EAA's deadline passed in June 2025 and national authorities began actively enforcing in 2026, with penalties reaching €100,000 or a share of annual turnover depending on the member state. It generally applies to e-commerce and consumer digital services sold to EU consumers, with an exemption for microenterprises.

How do I know your findings are right?
Every finding names the WCAG 2.2 success criterion it fails, so you can check us against the published standard rather than trusting us.
The contrast maths is asserted in our test suite against the reference values in the WCAG formula, and the rule engine is tested against fixtures for both directions — correct markup must produce no findings. A checker that cries wolf on good code is worse than useless.
